You'll own nothing and like it (and how to take ownership)
Increasingly, people have begun to notice that everything is a subscription that you pay to have access to. Quite quickly we've given up physical items that we own in favor of digital access. The issue with digital access is that it can be changed or revoked at any time. You never truly have ownership and the company who owns the distribution can do anything that they please.
You pay for netflix, you don't own movies or shows. You pay for cloud storage, you don't actually own the space your digital items take up. This is the game of you'll own nothing and like it. In the last year or so I've noticed a huge push against the digital age (and by extension - a chronically online life). Associated to this is also the right to repair. A huge villain in the right to repair has been Apple. I use a lot of Apple products but am well aware of their corporate greed.
In this day and age where the flaws of capitalism are right in front of us, here are some things that I'm doing to combat the decline of true ownership:
-Buying physical books. Although digital books may seem great for access, at any time a digital distributor can remove those books or even change them. This has happened a lot recently with Amazon Kindle. This also becomes revisionist where they could have the potentiality to change things in their distributed copy (like a of a certain country's set of laws and constitution...). I recommend building a home library if you are in the space to do so.
-Learn to repair items. Learn to fix things around your house and become more handy. It's important to have these type of skills any ways.
-Learn to sew! I just recently learned how to use a sewing machine, and it's opened up a whole new world of making my own things. With that also comes investigating fabrics, high quality materials, and how to make your own lasting items. Fast fashion is a huge problem in the world and people dump clothes into landfills at a very high rate.
-If you have a backyard, learn how to garden. Learn about agriculture and produce.
Bonus:
-Understand how to do basic medical and wound care. If you have a medical kit at home, now is the time to learn how to properly pack a wound or perform a temporary stitch.
